Chapter Eleven

God was it frustrating! I was the one who found Brooke first, the one who had saved her from Maddox and his disgusting nightclub, who had kidnapped her from the abuse to bring her here, to Silverwood Island to live out a better life as my mate. It was me who was going to claim her, and yet my best friends kept trying to complicate things.

Every time I wandered into the cottage and I saw one of those bastard friends of mine being all friendly with Brooke, I was ready to shift forms and toss them around. You couldn’t just take another shifter’s mate like that. Didn’t they understand that? Even if they didn’t, I would beat that understanding into them. If anybody had a chance with Brooke, it was me, and so that was why I needed to be the one to confront her about putting us all off.

Dylan’s and Liam’s protests died away as I trudged inside; I heard both scrambled to follow after me.

“Now’s not the time!” Dylan tried to say.

“She’ll get pissed at you!” Liam followed up.

My ears pricked at their words, but I simply ignored them for the time being.

Planting my foot in the hallway, I locked onto Brooke’s bedroom door and rushed towards it. Placing my flat palm on the slightly ajar door, I shoved it open. The door banged against the wall and shook as I step inside.

“Brooke!” I said as my gaze found her within milliseconds. I went to say more, but my voice was cut short by my quickened pulse at the eye-candy before me.

Frozen still as a statue, Brooke stared back at me while she was in the middle of pulling off her damp shirt. Underneath, her beautifully pale skin sparkled in the sunlight trying to stream through the blinded window behind her. My eyes drifted up to her chest, which was covered with a sexy, black lace bra. My eyes continued to undress her mentally as she began to quiver. My lips parted, yet I found no words coming out.

I took a step in. My desire for her overcame me once again, but this time I found her damp shirt flung into my face.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” she screamed, came over to shove me outside and snatched her shirt back as I tumbled back into the wall. Before I knew it, the door was slammed in my face, but the image of Brooke with her top off was burned into my brain. “Don’t just wander in, Jared!” she screeched from the other side.

I glanced over to find Dylan and Liam staring at me with disappointed eyes. Dylan had his arms crossed; he leaned against the wall and massaged his forehead. “You couldn’t have just, oh, I don’t know, waited?”

“Moron,” Liam muttered as he walked past, his clothes still somewhat damp. He vanished into his room, probably to change himself.

I ignored the others and grunted and stepped towards her door again. “Brooke! I want to talk to you.
